Brief History: Born in Melrose, Scotland to parents Michael and Anne Murphy. His father was not aligned with Voldemort, but was not keen on the idea of muggleborns studying magic, the idea having been passed onto him from his own parents (Finn's Grandparents). His mother was indifferent, and so Finnian grew up accepting of all witches and wizards, forming his opinion from his own experiences. Finnian first showed signs of magical ability at the age of 5, escaping a room that had been locked from the outside. He did not originally have any interest in plants or nature in general. Instead, he focused his attention on music from the wizarding world and local Scottish muggle festivals. When he turned 9, his father began working for the Ministry of Magic and the family moved to London. Finn continued to be interested in the arts, but his love for sports also began to grow. As his father rose higher and higher in rank at the Ministry, he encouraged his son's passion for Quidditch by taking him to every match nearby. Finnian was made to suffer through numerous (boring) parties, and became accustomed to the pureblood elitist groups, not caring much for such conversation. He preferred the days when they'd been worse off financially in Scotland to the new lifestyle they'd acquired. Once Finnian reached Hogwarts, he was sorted into Hufflepuff as his mother had been in her school days. Though Finn had a sharp mind, he was not particularly studious. His main goal was to make the house Quidditch team, and as his practice time outdoors increased, he began to explore nature. He was fond of the Herbology Professor at the time, and often worked on studying the effects of classical music on plant growth. He finally managed to win the position of beater on the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team, but they only won the cup once during his career. Though he was never Captain, a few professional teams sought him out at graduation. He declined their requests, not wishing to play for anything more than fun. He held a number of small jobs after leaving Hogwarts, including a spot at the Ministry. Finn quit after learning his father had been the only reason for his employment. He had a short column in the Daily Prophet for awhile, but eventually his loves caught up with him. He applied for the Herbology Professor position at Hogwarts, was hired, and has been teaching for 10 years now. He became the head of his old house, Hufflepuff. He still enjoys listening to music as he tends to his plants, including the Weird Sisters, Mozart, and Phantom of the Opera (wink wink).


Plot Thus Far: Finnian started out the year strong with his Herbology classes, attempting to bring a bit of fun to the subject with humour and interesting assignments. Though most students were punctual, others lost interest and Finnian's spirits began to sink. His romantic interest, A.G. Kilpatrick, left the castle not long into the term. As things were already taking a turn for the worse, Finnian's mistletoe decorations at Christmas time were used to aid an attack by Death Eaters! Finny's mood began to look up, however, around the time of the Yule Ball - when he was responsible for holding a dance for the younger students in the Greenhouses. Though he flirted some with Ellie Wulff, the flight instructor, she soon left him as well. Finnian maintains his cheer by interacting with his favourite students, not all of them Hufflepuffs as one would expect, and through dedication to the Order of the Phoenix. His good friends Cadogan Ferguson (prof_ferguson) and Mac Thorne (comc_macthorne) join him in the group, as well as teach their own subjects at Hogwarts.


Personality: Finnian is generally laid back, as he prefers to not let inner struggles affect his daily routine, but is very energetic about his passions. He can talk someone's ear off if he chooses, but gives the cold shoulder to those he dislikes. He hates intellectual conversation (growing up around stuffy parties), and would much rather discuss Quidditch scores or the weather. He has strong opinions about politics and the war, but he feels no desire to share them with others. In his opinion, that's exactly where tension starts to build up. He is accepting of all people, understands that everyone has rights, but he still can hold a grudge if it comes down to it. He can be goofy if really worked up about something, especially around good friends. When alone or with new people, he mostly stays in a quiet, content state. He always aims to make friends with his students (perhaps to not feel old?), and especially enjoys the company of those who stay in the class for all seven years at Hogwarts. He never comes off as strict or demanding, and wants students to form their own opinions. He's not afraid to laugh at those who look miserable, and usually is sympathetic toward those who complain. He attends every Quidditch Match the school holds. He values independence greatly, but hates actually being alone. That is, unless he is experimenting, and even then he'd not refuse a helping hand.
